Ready by 21 Policy Coalition Unveils Policy Alignment Guide at Congressional Briefing: Ronnie Steine
The Ready by 21 Policy Coalition held its first Capitol Hill briefing, organized by Corporate Voices for Working Families in partnership with the Forum. Attendees included nearly 100 congressional staffers, federal executive branch leaders and national child and youth advocates. Ready by 21 Partners were well-represented, with staff from United Way Worldwide, American Association of School Administrators, America’s Promise, and the National Collaboration for Youth all in attendance.
Steve Wing, president of Corporate Voices for Working Families, provided opening remarks, followed by Karen Pittman, president and co-founder of the Forum. Karen unveiled the Ready by 21 Policy Alignment Guide: Overview and Rationale, which helps policymakers ensure that new child and youth policies align with existing efforts to create a seamless system of supports. (The corresponding Ready by 21 Policy Alignment Toolkit, which will provide concrete examples and specific policy language, is forthcoming.)
The briefing featured a powerhouse panel of leaders from the Ready by 21 Southeast Challenge, including presentations from:
• Ronnie Steine, Metro Councilman-at-Large, Nashville, TN
• Thomas A. H. White, Senior Vice President, Investor Relations, Unum Group, Chattanooga, TN
• Gaye Morris Smith, Executive Director, Georgia Family Connection Partnership
In the coming months, the Ready by 21 Policy Coalition will continue to lift up the voices of state and local Ready by 21 leaders, bringing their work and expertise into key federal policy conversations.
