Affordable Care Act Grants Provide $100 Million to Create Healthier Communities
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently announced the availability of over $100 million for up to 75 Community Transformation Grants. Created by the Affordable Care Act, these grants aim to help communities implement projects proven to reduce chronic diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease, and thus reduce health disparities and lower health care costs. The grants support strategies for “tobacco-free living,” “active living and health eating,” social and emotional wellness, healthy and safe physical environments, and “high impact quality clinical and other preventive services.”
Grants are available to state and local governments, and to state and local nonprofits. Act fast: Letters of intent are due June 6. For more information, visit http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2011pres/05/20110513b.html.
