New Orleans City Leaders to Chart Path for Youth Services
Merita Irby, Elizabeth Gaines and Karen Pittman traveled to New Orleans in early April to work with the Greater New Orleans Afterschool Partnership (GNOAP). It was the first in a series of face-to-face meetings that will use
Ready by 21 tools, resources and technical assistance. The Forum will assist city agency officials and key stakeholders in rebuilding the fabric of programmatic supports for young people in New Orleans.

New York Kicks Off Quality Counts Initiative
Karen Finn, Senior Fellow at the Forum, joined the New York Office of Children and Family Services and the Onandaga, Rockland and Orange counties' Youth Bureaus to kick off the Ready by 21 Quality Counts Initiative in April. Finn presented the Ready by 21 Challenge and the important role that leaders play in ensuring youth and families have access to quality community supports. The events brought together a variety of stakeholders from youth bureaus, education, the United Way and other funders, youth program providers, social services, juvenile services, state, county and municipal officials and others. Nashville Kicks Off Quality Counts Initiative
On April 10, Karen Pittman joined staff from the Oasis Center to kick off Nashville's Ready by 21 Quality Counts initiative. The event brought together providers and policy makers from across the youth-serving sector in Nashville and the state. It focused on introducing the Ready by 21 Challenge and the four goals of the Quality Counts initiative: building capacity for ongoing program quality assessment and improvement, mapping and strengthening the program landscape; strengthening policy/leadership horsepower, and strengthening workforce development. Pittman also met separately with key city and state leaders to identify opportunities and barriers to linking the Quality Counts initiative to existing policy and planning work and to ensure that all providers -- small, large, faith-based and
community-based -- are engaged. View the PowerPoint presentation.
